Robert Downey Jr who is most famous for his iconic performance as ‘Iron Man’ has won his first ever Oscar award. At the 96th Academy Awards held in Los Angeles, the actor won the award in the “Best Supporting Actor” category for the movie Oppenheimer.
Robert Downey Jr Wins Best Support Actor Award At Oscars 2024:
Downey played ‘Lewis Strauss’ in Oppenheimer directed by Christopher Nolan. Cillian Murphy who played the leading role has also won the Oscars for ‘Best Actor’ for his role in the same movie. In total the movie has won seven awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Original Score.
In his award winning speech, Robert said “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order. Here’s my little secret, I needed this job more than it needed me. It was fantastic and I stand here a better man because of it.”
He further added “What we do is meaningful and the stuff we decide to make is important”. Downey thanked his wife by adding “She found me a snarling refuge pet and loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here.”

Actress Katherine Langford penned a heartfelt note for Robert while sharing a couple of pictures with the Oscar winner.

Katherine was cut from Avengers: Endgame as Morgan Stark, and she has earlier expressed that she would love to return as Iron Man’s daughter.
Talking about Downey’s Academy award, this is his first ever Oscar win. He was previously nominated in the ‘Best Actor’ category for ‘Chaplin’ in 1993 and in the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category ‘Tropic Thunder’ in 2009.
