Bollywood Actor Anupam Kher has recently attended the 2023 Jagran Film
Festival in New Delhi and was asked about his film ‘The Kashmir Files’. The
Kashmir Files is a blockbuster film released in 2022 under the direction of
Vivek Agnihotri and has stars like Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan
Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi in the important roles.
Its a film based on the exodus of the Kashmir Pandit community from the
Kashmir Valley which happened in the year 1990. The movie has become a
blockbuster by collecting around Rs 200 Cr at the box office. However, a
section of society has heavily criticized the makers and termed it a
‘Propaganda’. At the Jagran Film Festival, Anupam Kher was asked to comment on
the criticism the movie received.
Replying to the asked question, Anupam Kher said that there should not be any
problem in speaking what is right. The Kashmir Files is our Internal Truth.
“‘I talk candidly and I do that because there should not be any problem in
telling the truth. There is an end to the truth. There is no interpretation of
truth,” he replied.
He further added, “Don’t try to be popular with the whole world. First, be
popular with yourself. If you’re not popular with yourself, there is something
wrong with you. We often try to make something (film) wondering ‘Will the
others like it?’ No, what is important is if I like it or not”. He pointed out
that some filmmakers try to play to the gallery to please others, and he feels
it shouldn’t be done.
Anupam Kher also revealed that he doesn’t like to be called a Veteran or
Legend. “I’m not competing with my contemporaries. I’m competing with the
Tiger Shroffs of the world. I’m competing with Varun Dhawan. So, don’t call me
a legend, veteran because these tags mean you have worked a lot, please take
retirement. There are still 30-40 years to go for my retirement”- he
concluded.
On the work front, Anupam Kher last appeared in IB71 starring Vidyut Jammwal
and directed by Sankalp Reddy of Ghazi fame. He will be next seen in The
Vaccine War, The Signature, Kaagaz 2.
Apart from Bollywood, Anupam has been working in multiple languages down south
including Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. His performance in Telugu film
Karthikeya 2 last year has brought him a lot of applause from the Tollywood
audience and this Pan-India movie received appreciation from across the
nation. His next Telugu films are – “Tiger Nageswara Rao ” which has Ravi
Tejas as lead actor and Nupur Sanon as female lead and “The India House ”
starring Nikhil Siddhartha. He will also act in a Kannada movie titled Ghost.
