Aditya Dhar who gave a hard-hitting blockbuster URI starring Vicky Kaushal has
announced his next ‘The Immortal Ashwatthama’ in Jan 2021. However, the
project was called off by producer Ronnie Screwvala because of budget issues.

Later, Jio Studios pitched in and announced that the movie will be made with a
budget of 600 Cr. However, they didn’t want to go with Vicky Kaushal. Earlier,
the news made rounds that Ranveer Singh was approached to play the leading
role. They soon realized that there will be a huge financial risk to have
Ranveer on board considering his movie 83 failed to attract the masses. Also,
his last two movies Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Cirkus are disastrous at the box
    office.

Now, the makers are looking for someone from the South who is a Pan-India star
and the movie can be dubbed into multiple languages. An industry insider
reported “Getting a star from the South is a safer bet.

The moment an actor like Jr. NTR or Allu Arjun comes on board, the film
automatically becomes a Pan-India project and will be dubbed in multiple
languages. It also leads to an increase in box office revenue. With Ranveer
Singh, that is not possible as he is not a pan-India actor. Forget South, even
Hindi audiences may not turn up in huge numbers, courtesy of his back-to-back
    debacles”.

On the other hand, Sara Ali Khan was chosen as the lead actress first and
later Samantha’s name was discussed. However, the cast and crew are yet to be
    finalized by the makers.
