It is a proud moment for India as Harnaaz Sandhu from Punjab is crowned as the Miss Universe 2021. The 70th Miss Universe pageant was held on December 12 at Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel. The popular TV presenter Steve Harvey hosted the beauty pageant and Fox has been the official broadcaster. Bio:
She was born on 3 March 2000 (age 21) in Chandigarh, Punjab in a Punjabi Sikh family. She received her primary education at Kalia public school Guruharsahai. She completed post-graduation from Government College for Girls from Chandigarh. Currently, she is pursuing a master degree in Public Administration.
Beauty pageants list:
Harnaaz Sandhu is 1.76 m (5 ft 9+1⁄2 in), has brown eyes, and black hair. Before Miss Universe, she has won the title of Miss Diva 2021. It was the 9th edition of the Miss Diva Pageant which was held on 30th September 2021 in Hyatt Regency Hotel, Mumbai. Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned by Adline Castelino as her successor. Before these major beauty pageants, Harnaaz Sandhu has competed in Miss Guruharsahai 2016, Miss Ferozepur 2017 and Miss Max Emerging Star India 2018. After this, she won the title of Femina Miss India Punjab 2019, Harnaaz Sandhu competed in Femina Miss India.
Journey to Miss Universe 2021:
After winning the title of Miss Diva 2021, Harnaaz Sandhu has received the right to represent India in the 2021 Miss Universe competition. The event was held on 12th December 2021 in Eilat, Israel. Harnaaz Sandhu was early to qualify for the 80 contestants pool and made her name in the top 16. Later, she advanced to top 10, top 5 and top 3. Harnaaz became the third Indian to achieve this milestone, before that Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000 had won that title for India.

Harnaaz Sandhu defeated contestants Nadia Ferreira from Paraguay and Lalela Mswane from South Africa from the top 3 to claim the crown. She was crowned by Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico. The event was live-streamed worldwide.

The top 3 contestants were asked the question as part of three rounds. The question was "What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today?". To this question Harnaaz Sandhu gave a perfect answer with confidence, she said "The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing, is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let's talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that is why I am standing here today".
