On talking with Mid Day the director and filmmaker Anurag Basu opened up about queen actress Kangana Ranaut and said: "Of the 20-25 girls we auditioned for the part, her face just stuck in my head - there was something unique about her". By continuing he added that "In the beginning, she needed guidance for everything. But she is a really fast learner. I have seen her growth during the filming of Gangster itself".

Anurag Basu also talked about the persona of Kangana Ranaut and said that he usually not met with Kangana Ranaut but whenever he meets her, this is public persona is not her and he thinks there are two Kangana's.
